RIETVELD by Rietveld Inspired

Retrieved from my bookshelve and found L'Officiel 1000 Model Design Issue No. 6
2008-2009.

I was inspired to try out a very unique chair design by Rietveld-by-rietveld

This is how my Steltman Chair 2010 turn out to be. Quite close i think ...

But because i'm a rusty kind of guy... i have it finished of course... my favorite style - the rusty style ha.. ha..

The Steltman Chair (1963)

Last week i recieved some chapchai woods i ordered from the nearby mill. Not because i have a huge order but because they were dirt cheap i decided to have them dumped at my backyard as stocks.

It all started when an owner of a nearby resort asking me to do some stools and benches i eventually have a trailer load of chapcahi...

Now i have to be busy thinking of what to do with those woods .... and i welcome any friends who are interested to start any woody project

Poolside Bench

This is the first unit of poolside bench ordered (which is halfway done) and at the the end of the week i completed 5 units and another 5 units of side tables.

The Stool

As requested by the customer, the rusty finish of the stools was done.

Man at work

For the past couple of weeks have been very busy completing small woodwork projects. At least a couple of stools, bench, a bookrack, a sculpture and a side table.

"LOVERS CHAIR"

This 2 seater garden bench is of chengal (reclaimed orchard fencing material) measuring L48". A lot of hardwork went into it with the joints due to its curves, bends and odd sizes/length. I cant recall how it was done but.. i made it!

"TERMITES HOME"

A stool made of tembusu top with pine legs. I believe the tembusu top material must have been burried in the ground for at least 15 years and it was filled with termite holes when recovered. Once it was cleaned and sanded it came amazingly alive!

"TENGGIRI"

I tried my hands on a sculpture from a piece of chengal found by the Cherating beach. And found the base for it from a burnt piece of chengal wood.

I guess the fish looking head of the piece and the relationship with the sea was what attracted me to work on it. I think it turns out ok.

"THE OLD RACK"

A bookrack made of chengal pieces (measuring H26" L24" W12") was done in a rush for a friend's son.

"HONEY"

A bowl made from a tembusu trunk piece given by a freind for the forthcoming Aidil Adha. Usually these pieces of tembusu are used as chopping boards by the kampung folks (at lease in my area in Kijal).

This is my first experience of bowlmaking using tembusu but i guess it turns out beautifully.

Wow! It looks like Tembusu is now my number 1 material selection.

"LEFT FOOTERS"

I fine sanded this piece of tembusu stool top, and the results after applying 3 layers of clear paint... oh my god..it is fantastic! The legs are of tembusu trunk that might have been burried for ages. It gives an eerie looks to it.

I can safely suggest to those guitarmakers (perhaps... Fender) to use it.

"SAFARI"

Is the name goes to it. To add on to my tembusu project of the week is the 4" chunk and the root assembled together in a form of a side table (H18"xW16"). Its unbelievable! and this piece is up for grabs!!
